STATIC X - mACHINE KILLER TOUR
Fall 2023 Grymm Studios collaborated with Decimated Designs to create several large scale puppets for the 23/24 Static X Machine Killer Tour! Our collaboration with the metal band led to the creation of visually striking costumes and puppets that added a dynamic and theatrical dimension to their stage shows.
FRANKEN WAYNE
The first creation was the larger-than-life “Franken Wayne” puppet, standing at an impressive 10 feet tall! This puppet boasted a turning head, rod-controlled hands, and oversized legs and feet that moved in tandem with the puppeteer. The addition of built-in mini-fog machines and LED lighting added an extra element being paired with the character’s drug delivery “vape” apparatus. This puppet brought an interactive and visually captivating element to the band’s stage presence! Grymm Studios was responsible for engineering and fabricating the costumes harness and rigging to make it safe and comfortable for the 80lb puppet. The costumes' jacket, pants, and shoes were also crafted and distressed by us, as well as the steampunk vape.
disco witch
The “Disco Witch” puppet emerged as a unique and sinister addition, featuring an enormous evil disco ball with Jack-O-Lantern faces and tree branch limbs. Initially appearing happy, the puppet would spin to reveal a red LED-lit angry face, adding an element of surprise and theatricality to the band’s performances. The engineering of the rig and harness, as well as the costume were also created by Grymm Studios, to allow the puppeteer to control the 10 foot tall puppet, and to manually turn the disco ball head easily with a ball-bearing driven mechanism. The Disco Witch is the embodiment of the bands' description of their music, which they call "EVIL DISCO"!
the bride
The third costume created by Grymm Studios was called "The Bride". This was a much more lightweight construction puppet/costume hybrid. Fabrication of the head, arms, and chest piece were built from L200, Worbla, and Miscellaneous materials.
tesla x coils
The center stage microphone riser was fitted with 6 Tesla Coil devices created in a diesel-punk style and were illuminated using programable LED's.
